The soccer team visited Lubbock Sunday to face Texas Tech University and lost by a score of 3-1. This puts ACU’s record at 1-4-1 while the Red Raiders moved up to an impressive 4-1-1 record.

“We fought extremely well today,” said sophomore Dylan Owens. “Tech is a great team that controls the game, but during the second half we were the ones controlling the game. This shows what we are capable of, and it’s really exciting. We gained confidence from this game and just gotta keep working hard, communicating and meshing as a whole and I think the goals will start coming.”

Junior Leslie Snider scored the lone goal of the game coming five minutes into the second half. The Wildcats took a total of seven shots with five of them coming on goal. Goalkeeper Kelsey Dombrowski was the starter against Tech and played the full 90 minutes. She made a total of four saves in the losing effort.

“In the second half with the wind we were able to connect more passes and build some quality attacks,” Snider said. “Tech is a very good possession-oriented team, and they attack the weak side well.”

The Red Raiders took a total of 20 shots with seven of them being put on goal. Forward Jade King took eight of their shots and put three of them on goal. She also scored one of the goals for Tech along with forward Gwennie Puente and defender Cassie Borren, who came up with the rest of the offense. Midfielder Jordie Harr and defender Rebekah O’Brien were credited with assists. Lauren Watson was in the goal for the Red Raiders and made four saves.

“We look forward to building on this result next week against OSU and SMU,” Snider said. “These types of teams do not make many mistakes, so we have to work more to keep the ball when we win it.”
