The Wildcat’s will hit the road to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as they begin Southland Conference play, Saturday.

ACU heads into the match with a record of 1-6-1 while Texas A&M Corpus Christi enters conference play with an 0-7 record.

“We’ve played some challenging preseason teams and I think that we are confident going in to conference,” sophomore Allie Tollette said. “We’ve been making the most of every practice this week in order to begin conference with a win.”

The Wildcats have tallied ten goals so far this season with two each coming from senior forward Natalie Throneberry and freshman defenseman Shay Johnson. Throneberry also leads in points with five as she has one assist to go with her two goals.

Johnson will be sidelined to begin conference play, as she works back from a sprained ankle and probable ligament tear.

Junior midfielder Chloe Fifer leads the team with three assists. Senior goalkeeper Sydney Newton leads the team with 27 saves on the year along with a .818 save percentage and a 1.18 goals against average.

TAMU-CC has put up a total of three goals this season this season with one each coming from sophomore forward Kaitlyn Joy, freshman forward Shayla Spearman, and freshman midfielder Chayse Bauer.

Joy, Spearman, and junior defenseman Brooke Erdmann lead the team with one assist each. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Wainwright leads the team in saves with 38 along with a .679 save percentage and a goals against average of 5.66.

“I’m feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement as with the beginning of every conference play,” said senior Kelsie Roberts. “I’m excited to play my senior year out and hopefully enjoy a successful season. The team is staying focused and working hard at every practice, so we’re looking forward to conference.”

When the two teams met a year ago to open conference play, they battled to a 1-1 tie. ACU went on to finish 7-2-1, for a third place finish in the Southland and picked to finish second by the preseason poll this year.
