The soccer team finished its second game of a weekend home stand with a 2-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.
With the win, the Wildcats moved to 3-0-0 in conference play and 4-6-1 overall and Southeastern Louisiana falls to 1-2-0 in conference and 4-6-1 overall.
Freshman forward Samantha Vestal, who scored her first collegiate goal in Sunday’s game said the team’s spirits are high after the win.
“I feel we are very confident being 3-0 in conference,” Vestal said. “Our team chemistry is unbelievable, and we are all waiting to see what this season brings. Going into the rest of conference we are trying to be focused and work together and keep building every game.”
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard quickly with a goal from junior midfielder Chloe Fifer at the four minute mark, her first of the season.
The women scored again in the first half as Vestal put in the assist from junior defender Peyton Bucklew at the 45 minute mark,
“My first goal feels great,” Vestal said. “It feels so good to get the first one out from under my feet and it’s giving me a chance to open my eyes and look forward to my future here at ACU. All I wanted was to be able to get a chance to help my team out this season, and getting a goal was just the icing on the cake.”
Senior goalkeeper Sydney Newton was the starter yesterday and played all 90 minutes. She made six total saves giving her 41 on the season.
For Southeastern Louisiana, the Lions took a total of 21 shots with seven coming on goal. Senior forward Casey Peacock led the team with five shots, but just one was put on frame.
Senior goalkeeper Hope Sabadash played the full 90 minutes and saw a total of eight shots, saving six of them to give her 64 saves on the season.
“We are excited to have some wins underneath our belt and it just motivates us more to keep an undefeated record in conference,” Bucklew said. “We’ve had to make adjustments due to injuries, but I think our overall teams mindset is the same. We’re gonna keep doing what we’re doing, but just clean a few things up as we go into this next weekend.”
The Wildcats will travel to Louisiana to face Northwestern State University on Friday.
