The break is about adjectives

October 23, 2002 by Joel Weckerly

Weck’s World

You’ve all been waiting for it. Face it; you’ve had the dates Oct. 24-27 circled on your calendars for weeks. It’s amazing how quickly it comes, and even more amazing is how it comes at such an opportune time. Don’t hold your breath anymore-fall break is here!

Thursday afternoon after class the ACU campus will become deserted, as all students, male and female, freshman and senior alike, head out to get away from it all. Those of us who are upperclassmen know that fall break is an essential part of the school year, and the freshmen are excited because it’s the first real break they’ve gotten.

Any way you look at it, the fall break period is a time when we can all become road tripping, house chilling, guitar playing, family visiting, dance clubbing, always sleeping, parent mooching, movie watching, junk food eating, video game playing, song singing, pool swimming, sight seeing, body relaxing, concert going, bonfire surrounding, memory reminiscing college kids.

Say what? You do all that stuff here on campus anyway? Well, enjoy lots more of it this coming weekend. But whatever you do, leave all the book studying, glossary memorizing, test taking, class dozing, note taking, pencil sharpening, Scantron buying, report presenting, speech giving, class registering, pocket-protecting, club serving, paper typing, late night cramming and group meeting back in Abilene.

What a relief, huh? But don’t let the tremendous lack of school stuff get you so excited that you turn into a mischief making, sign stealing, riot causing, hearty partying, out making (switch the two words around-it works), law breaking, dirty dancing, highway speeding, drag racing, heart breaking, goat thieving, jail visiting, cow tipping, elder disrespecting, trouble causing, eardrum shattering young adult.

So, in short, have fun, leave your stressors behind, but at the same time be smart. But what do I know? After all, I’m just a column writing, advice giving, busybodying, peer nagging, word typing, power tripping, editor following, career aspiring journalist.

Whew! I’m fresh out of descriptive -ing words. Have a great time this fall break. After all, there’s plenty more of paragraph #4 waiting for you when you get back.
