Online registration for sophomore residence halls made the sign-up process easier for freshmen, said Mimi Barnard, director of Residence Life Education and Housing.
The sign-ups were accelerated because of the online procedure, and they went well, Barnard said.
Freshmen signed up for suites in Edwards and Morris halls Monday; Sikes and Edwards halls Tuesday; and Smith and Adams halls Thursday.
Barnard said she did not know which dorms students preferred over others until the sign-up process was complete, and preferences change from year to year. She said Morris Hall had empty rooms at the end of last year’s sign-ups, which was not the case this year.
Barnard said she has no way of predicting over-crowding in the residence halls.
“If we do, we’ll work to find the best solutions possible,” Barnard said.
Leah Robison, freshman political science major from Midland, registered Tuesday for Sikes Hall and said the process was “so simple you just can’t mess it up.”
Robison said she chose to live in Sikes because she will have friends staying there, but she is not picky about where she ends up.
“A room’s a room no matter where it is,” Robison said.
Jake Roseberry, freshman management major from Troy, Ohio, said the online registration was easy and helpful.
Roseberry signed up for a suite in Edwards Monday and said he is excited about having a bigger room, getting to meet new people and not having a curfew.
“I’m very much looking forward to not having curfew,” Roseberry said. “I think I will stay out all night a couple of times in the beginning just because I can.”
