Volunteer Opportunities for April 21, 2004

The Office of Human Resources needs volunteers to work as ushers for the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner next Friday, 4:30-9:30 p.m. at the Teague Special Events Center. The dinner will honor retiring faculty and staff members. Workers will be given $20 and a meal. If a volunteer or worker needs to leave before the meal, that can be worked out before the event. For more information, go to the Human Resources office, Administration Building, Room 213, call Ext. 2359 or Donna Davis at Ext. 2357, or e-mail humanresources@acu.edu.

Volunteer announcers are needed for the Abilene North Jr. baseball league. Days and times vary. For more information, contact the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center in the Bean Sprout.

The House That Kerry Built, an organization that provides services for medically fragile children, needs a volunteer to create two Web sites. Contact the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center in the Bean Sprout for more information.

The Salvation Army needs volunteers to help sort clothing, stain shelves and price items. For more information, contact Dawn Pulscher at 677-1408.

The Northern Oaks Rehab and Nursing Center needs volunteers to help the elderly with activities such as Bingo, crafts, visits and games any day, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. or evenings with coordination at 2722 Old Anson Road. For more information, contact Jayme Smith at 676-1677.

Dyess Air Force Base Community Center needs volunteers to instruct classes for youth and senior citizens Mondays through Wednesdays, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. The classes include arts, drawing, sketching, music and dance. For more information, contact Jermaine Ervin at 696-4305.

The Optimist and ACUTV partnered together to produce a 3-hour live election show on Tuesday night. A team of 25 students worked for weeks preparing while doing research and interviews with guests like Dr. Phil Schubert and Rep. Stan Lambert.
