Students took a first look at pledging Monday during the All Club Rush. Men’s and women’s clubs had members present to meet prospective members.
Sarah Kelly, president of GATA and junior advertising and public relations major from San Antonio, was excited to have the opportunity to get to know so many of the girls.
“We genuinely want to get to know the girls as much as possible and make them feel as comfortable as possible,” Kelly said. “We know that rushing and pledging is a stressful time for them.”
The men of Frater Sodalis used the opportunity to engage with potential pledges said Jack Sorrells, junior computer science major from Waco.
“With all the different clubs there, it is difficult to really engage with some of the potential pledges,” Sorrells said. “It is a great way for a smaller club like Frats to reach out to guys who wouldn’t normally come to our rushes or look into us otherwise.”
The spring rushes are an opportunity for students to learn more about clubs.
Alexi Mendez, freshman music education major from Spring, is not legacy and said she was able to look at them with a fresh perspective.
“I went to almost all of the girls clubs, they had food there and they were all really friendly,” Alexi said. “Siggies were my favorite though, they were the friendliest.”
Blair Agan, a freshman communication and political science major from Lake Jackson, is very active at ACU being involved in nine on campus clubs and organizations, but he is unsure if he will be pledging in the fall.
“The pledging process is very interesting to me. It’s a unique part of the ACU experience but, I feel it can isolate individuals,” Agan said. “I feel that if I pledge to one club specifically, then I will lose friendships to others that pledged in a different club.”
Throughout all of the rivalries in clubs with intramural games and Sing Song, this is a time that they have more opportunities to spend time together and work towards a common goal of finding the best new members for each of their groups, Kelly said.
“I think it was a great opportunity for clubs to mingle with other clubs and potential pledges and see how we all get along,” Kelly said.
