All-Club Tailgate Rush and Women’s Tea planned for weekend

September 7, 2012 by Kara Stutesman

Rushing begins this weekend with two all club rushes, the All-Club Tailgate Rush Saturday and the Women’s Tea Party Rush on Sunday.

The Tailgate Rush is a new addition to the rushing schedule. The presidents of each club decided at their presidents meeting that they wanted to put on another All-Club Rush during the fall semester, much like the one they put on in the spring.

Bethany Morgan, a senior Ad/Pr major and President of Alpha Kai Omega, said, “We have all decided to work together on this rush. This is our chance, as social clubs, to show the campus that it’s okay to be united. We want to break down the confrontational barriers and show everyone we do, in fact love each other.”

Trojan Rush Director, Bo Bradock a junior Biology/Pre-Med major said, “I love meeting new people and rushes are a great way to do that. It’s also kind of a reminder that ‘Ah- this is why we do club.'”

For those attending the rush, it is a time to meet club members and other hopeful pledges.

Austin Bowman, a sophomore Ministry major and hopeful pledgling, said he was attending for multiple reasons. “For one, free food. I am glad that they (the clubs) are all in one area because there are guys that I like in all of the clubs.”

Sunday is the Women’s Tea Party Rush. Rushees are separated into groups and have the opportunity to visit with members of each club in various locations throughout campus. They will then walk around and meet each of the clubs. Rushees are to wear “Sunday best,” and comfortable shoes.

There was also an informational meeting for those planning to rush last night at 5. The meeting covered expectations for pledges as well as GPA requirements, registration deadlines, and the anti-hazing policy.

The presidents of each social club also spoke and gave insight on what the pledges should expect. Information from the meeting is available at www.acu.edu/campusoffices/studentorgs/socialclubs.

The Women’s Tea Party Rush starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Tailgate Rush is at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at Shotwell Stadium.
