With pledging in full swing, pledges are busy planning and organizing fun-filled theme dinners, known as grubs, for members and their dates. Two grubs have already taken place, with others soon to follow.
Grub is a huge tradition for clubs and is one of the most memorable parts of pledging. Grub is an event where pledges from each club plan a dinner event for all club members, take care of catering services, provide entertainment and design t-shirts to go along with the theme.
Ko Jo Kai has a long standing tradition of not letting the members know the theme of grub until a couple of days before the event.
Kendra Mueck, sophomore exercise science pre-physical therapy major from Robinson, is the NuNu president for this year’s pledge class.
“I feel like we’re really on top of things and we have a lot of our decorations done,” Mueck said. “The Kojies have been making sure all of the NuNu’s have been working well together.”
Gamma Sigma Phi’s “Olympics” and Frater Sodalis’ “Hay Lay” have already taken place. The grubs to continue this weekend and the following week are Ko Jo Kai’s “NuNu to the Rescue”, Sigma Theta Chi’s “Siggie Stars”, Alpha Kai’s “Fairy Tales”, GATA’s “Alphabet Soup”, Zeta Rho’s “Very Potter potluck”, Galaxy’s “Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist” and the Trojans “Safari”.
David Salinas, senior exercise science major from San Antonio, is excited for the Trojan club. Salinas and the rest of the Trojan pledges, named Slavs, are helping put together the Trojan grub that will be held at the Abilene Zoo.
“It’s been really hectic. We only had two weeks this year to do it, but they had a month last year to do it,” Salinas said. “But it has been so much fun planning it and putting it all together because we want to make it a good grub and it allows us Slavs to get to be closer to each other.”
Salinas said the members are helping with the venue and the food.
Pi Kappa and Sub-T 16 will be conducting their grubs in the upcoming weeks.
