The Honors college is putting on a special event in honor of the presidential election called, “Deep Dish Philosophy Night,” in the Smith Adams Dormitory Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
Deep Dish Philosophy Night is an event where the Honors students will watch multiple views of the debate right after the polls/ballots close. It is an event for the Honors students to get together and for some students to get ready for the Washington D.C. trip in January.
Dr. Michael Harbour, executive administrative director of the Honors College, is one of the organizers of the event.
“Honors will supply food and we will bring pizza, drinks and invite the residents down and have multiple TV’s up,” Harbour said. “We will have a FOX station and a CNN station.”
The event is only for Honors students. Their are 430 students in Honors overall, Â with over 75 Honors students located in the Smith Adams dorm. The main reason the event is limited to just Honors is because space is limited.
Dr. Lynette Sharp Penya and Dr. Suzie Macaluso will attend the event to help discussion as events unfold.
“Its watching the spectacle of a presidential election unfold with our own ACU faculty commentary,” Harbour said.
Harbour said that this is the first Deep Dish Philosophy Night and will last as long as students are willing to stay.
Dr. Lynette Sharp Penya, is also leading a trip of Honors students on a Washington D.C. trip in January.
“One of the reasons he has asked us to do it because we are taking a group of students to Washington D.C. for a January short course,” Penya said. “We are taking students to The Washington Center where they are putting on a seminar with high profile speakers and the relationship between the media and presidential campaigns.”
