Seekers of the Word, ACU’s drama ministry group, plans to travel to Colorado during spring break.
The group, often referred to as simply “Seekers,” performs skits with messages inspired by scripture. Seekers performs on campus and for youth groups in Abilene and surrounding cities. An out-of-state trip is not a new concept for Seekers.
Emmy Sparks, senior biology major from Longmont, Colo. and public relations officer for Seekers of the Word, said that Seekers used to perform out-of-state more often.
“This will be the first time since I’ve been in Seekers that we will stay out of state for an extended period of time,” Sparks said.
Seekers will be travelling to Sparks’ hometown and performing at various venues throughout the area. They will be conducting a workshop with a middle school drama class, performing at a children’s home, performing at chapel services for Christian schools and possibly visiting children’s ministries and college groups.
“We’re still nailing down the details on a couple of them, but we could have as many as seven [performances] over the course of the week,” Sparks said.
The group is being aided in making sure that all the appropriate safety measures for a university trip are being taken.
Megan May, Instruction and Outreach Librarian and faculty sponsor for Seekers of the Word, is helping Seekers with the logistics of the trip.
“Especially in light of recent events, I’m making sure all the appropriate videos are watched, we have medical release forms for everybody, organizing financing and other things of that nature,” May said.
May hopes trips such as the Colorado tour will become a norm for the group, but recognizes ministry opportunities in town can be just as effective.
“Seekers is eager to go wherever the Lord sends us. If He sends us someplace in town or some place out of town the goal is to edify the people we’re performing for,” May said.
While Seekers’ goal is to minister to others, in doing so the members are also affected.
“These kinds of trips have a symbiotic effect on both us and those we minister to,” said Ryan Carroll, senior Bible major from Prosper and president of Seekers of the Word. “Although we hope and pray that we can bless others while we are in Colorado, simultaneously we know that our group will be blessed as well by this opportunity.”
Sparks has similar hopes for the trip.
“My hope is that-Seekers will come back strengthened in faith and in motivation to continue to stretch ourselves,” Sparks said. “God is at work, and my goal is to see Seekers make the most of every opportunity and to be faithful with the resources God has given us to promote his kingdom.”
Seekers of the Word will be selling bracelets in the Campus Center on Wednesday and Friday to raise money for gas expenses.
