An informational meeting will take place in the Campus Center Living Room Feb. 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarship. All students are welcome to attend for free pizza and more information.
A representative from the Institute of International Education, a private non-profit organization focused on the international exchange of ideas, will come to ACU to organize a session for any students interested in applying for a Fulbright grant.
“The application cycle for this year is open, but the applications are not due until around mid-October,” said Dr. Jason Morris, director of the Office of Major Scholarships.
The office is part of the Honors College and was created about three years ago as a way to help students find and apply for various scholarships. It aids students in identifying which scholarships would be most beneficial to them and provides instructions on building interview skills and improving writing skills.
“What that office is designed to do is to help students who want to apply for a list of what we call major scholarships such as the Fulbright grant, the Marshall Scholarship and the Truman Scholarship,” Morris said.
These scholarships focus on public service, international education and strengthening intellectual and personal growth.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is just one of various nationally competitive major scholarships and fellowships students can apply for through the office of major scholarships.
The program provides grants for individually-designed study and research projects, or English teaching assistant programs that take place outside the U.S. for an entire academic year.
The program encourages cultural exchange through daily interaction with people of the host country allowing the recipient of the grant to gain appreciation of the people’s views and beliefs, the way they live and the way they think.
The institute representative will have more information at the meeting Tuesday, but students interested in more information about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program can visit us.fulbrightonline.org to learn more.
To RSVP for the meeting, email Katie Smith at katie.smith@acu.edu.
“Students can RSVP up to the day of, but preferably the day before so we can order pizza,” she said.
