Softball gains two wins on the road

February 21, 2016 by Abbey Bowling

The softball team snagged two wins and two losses during the LA Tech Invitational in Ruston, Louisiana this weekend.

The Wildcats lost to Louisiana Tech Friday afternoon, 4-1. Redshirt sophomore Hannah Null struck out six batters in 5.0 innings and Briana Barnhill hit a home run in the sixth inning to provide ACU’s only run.

ACU broke its losing streak Friday night by winning 3-1 against Belmont University. Freshman pitcher Allison Turner threw a complete 7.0-inning game with three strikeouts and junior Taylor Brown hit her first collegiate home run in the third to put the Wildcats on the board. Donelle Johnson followed by scoring on a fielding error, and sophomore Peyton Hedrick scored on an RBI by Barnhill. Brown finished the game 2-for-4 with one run and and RBI.

Null pitched a complete game shut-out against Mississippi Valley State Saturday afternoon, leading the team to a 7-0 win with nine strikeouts, no walks and two hits. The Wildcats started scoring in the second on several RBIs and continued through the fourth inning, including sophomore Holly Neese‘s two-run homer in the third. Six ACU players recorded a hit as Neese and senior Demi McNulty picked up a pair of runs batted in each.

ACU lost the last game 2-0 against Texas State Friday night, bringing their current record to 2-7. Turner pitched six innings, striking out five batters and giving up just four hits.

The Wildcats will play the University of Texas, the University of Illinois and the University of Tulsa next weekend in Austin.
