Softball continues win streak in Louisiana

March 13, 2016 by Abbey Bowling

The Softball team continued their winning streak this weekend by outscoring Southeastern Louisiana University 26-10 across all three games.

The Wildcats won the first game Saturday night, 7-3. Redshirt sophomore Hannah Null pitched the first 4.0-innings, with two strikeouts, two walks and three runs, two of them unearned. Freshman Allison Turner took over in the fifth, pitching 3.0-innings and giving up two hits while striking out one, earning the save while Null recorded the win.

Null moves to 4-3 with a 3.66 ERA.

After starting the game down 2-0 in the first inning, sophomore Holly Neese homered to left field to put the Wildcats on the board. She came back again in the fourth to help score two more runs, tying the score at 3-3 until the fifth inning, when sophomore Peyton Hedrick hit a two-RBI double to give ACU the lead.

Neese smashed a two-run homerun later in the fifth, bringing the final score to 7-3. Neese finished the game with two homers, three runs and four RBIs.

The second game ended in a close win for the Wildcats with a final score of 6-5. Null pitched 5.1-innings with five strikeouts and two runs, and sophomore Brianna Barnhill recorded three RBIs while senior Demi McNulty recorded two.

The final game ended with ACU beating the Lady Lions, 13-2, after Hedrick started the game by hitting a home run in the first inning.

McNulty followed with an RBI double in the second and Brown recorded an RBI triple in the fourth. Neese hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning, Barnhill got an RBI single in the fifth and Alyson Bishoff finished the game with an RBI single.

The Wildcats collectively recorded 13 RBIs, 11 hits and only one strikeout.

ACU’s record is now 9-11 in regular season and 3-0 in the Southland Conference. The Wildcats play in Abilene next weekend to face off against Lamar University.
