The Grace hosts College De-stress day

May 2, 2016 by Jessica Clark

The Grace Museum will have its second semi annual College De-stress day Monday.

College De-stress day began Dec. 7, 2015, Dead Day of the fall 2015 semester. The event began as a double effort by the Grace to help students either take a study break or study in a different environment.

“I’m an ACU alum, and I remember when I was a student during finals week, there would be several events that would help students center their minds on something other than finals,” said Emerald Cassidy, director of marketing at the Grace.”It was really your sanity that week.”

Students from ACU, Hardin-Simmons University, McMurry University, Texas State Technical College and Cisco College are all welcome to attend College De-stress day.

The Grace Museum is closed to the public on Mondays, so College De-stress day is a day for students only. Students can walk around the art exhibits, but the Grace arranged for a little extra entertainment as well. The event will include food trucks and a host of animals from the May Farm Petting Zoo for students’ entertainment.

Students will also be able to study at the Grace. Art exhibits throughout the museum and the Grace’s library will be open for students to study if they choose.

“I think the great thing about the Grace De-stress day is just getting out of the house to study in a peaceful place,” said Erika Thrasher, senior multimedia major from Coppell. “A change of scenery can do a lot of good. Plus, food trucks are always a bonus.”

Last year, College De-stress day saw an attendance of about 300. This year, the Grace is hoping for the same or better attendance from students across all universities in the area.

College De-stress day is free for all students with a student ID, and food from the food trucks will be available for purchase. The event will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
