Foundation A Cappella group put on its first concert this Monday in Cullen Auditorium at 8:30 p.m.
Nick Tatum began the group at the beginning of this year, with auditions open to freshman, said Tessa Kennedy, freshman undeclared major from Allen. Foundation is made of of 15 singers.
The concert was a showcase of what Foundation has been working on over the year. It contained a mixture of spiritual songs such as “Forever We Sing Hallelujah” and “Worthy is the Lamb” alongside secular songs, such as the Pentatonix version of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
“ACU has always had the tradition of A Cappella music,” Kennedy said. “And it hasn’t really been prevalent in a group setting, like, it’s been in chapel and stuff like that, but there hasn’t been an a cappella group since Nick graduated, and he wanted bring that back, bring that tradition back and have that going on.”
“I’ve just felt so blessed by the immediate community that there is, and everyone is super positive and encouraging,” Kennedy said. “It’s just been so fun to be around these people, and obviously we’re all from different places, but the music brings us together, and it’s been really awesome and fun to have that shared community, and also just working hard to get all the songs together.”
Auditions for next year’s groups will be May 2nd. They are adding a mixed vocals group called Hilltop and an all women’s group called Gracenote. Foundation will be for incoming freshmen as it was this year. Students can sign up to apply at https://www.acustupro.com/audition.
