Brown Library, Innovation Foundry host Creative U to foster creativity

April 3, 2019 by B. J. Maxwell Jr.

The Brown Library and Innovation Foundry will host “Creative U” 2019 starting April 8th – 12th.

Creative U started a few years ago and was previously named Adobe Days. The goal originally was to promote the use of Adobe and its products on campus.

While this is still a prominent goal, the Library and Innovation Foundry has taken it a step further. Their new mission is to promote and foster creativity in every sense.

Amos Gutierrez, Innovation Foundry learning technology specialist & Adobe ambassador said that Creative U is a great way to tap into those skills that one may not be aware of.

“Fostering skills like creativity throughout college prepares students for future success in the workplace, including using tools like Adobe Creative Cloud,” said Gutierrez.

While the Brown Library is the main sponsor for the event, there are many people helping out with Creative U. The Innovation Foundry serves as the organizer for the event while receiving assistance from Adobe, The Learning Studio, The Maker Lab, The Adams Center, and Admissions.

“ACU provides students, faculty, and staff with free access to Creative Cloud, which includes Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Spark, and more,” said Gutierrez.

There are many programs and softwares offered here on campus that students can take advantage of. Creative U is a chance to further one’s knowledge and use of these programs while innovating their own personal twist.

“Creative U is a week in the spring that is meant to celebrate and fuel both faculty and student curiosity and creativity,” said John Weaver, dean of library services and educational technology.  “Events that week like the Maker Fest inspire us by showing off creative possibilities, while the hands-on workshops throughout the week spark our own creative processes.”

The list of events for Creative U 2019 includes:

Monday: Free professional headshots for all faculty, staff, and students (plus, learn how to edit your photo)
Tuesday: Design and create your own custom coasters and vinyl stickers in the Maker Lab.
Wednesday: Panel session highlighting the use of Adobe and other creative tools in the classroom.
Thursday: Maker Fest
Friday: Special Session with Jordan Bunch (ACU Alumnus and CEO of Film Mavericks)
