Griggs Center taking applications Praxis Academy applications

April 3, 2019 by B. J. Maxwell Jr.

The Griggs Center will be taking applications for the 2019 Praxis Academy.

The Praxis Academy is a weeklong conference hosted by Praxis Labs on the campus of Biola University in Los Angeles, California.

There are approximately 250 students from around the globe that are selected to attend through an application process.

This summer’s academy will take place from July 29 – Aug. 2, 2019.

Amanda Pittman, Program Coordinator for the Griggs Center for Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy will also attend the academy this summer for her second straight year. She will travel with students from campus who are selected for the trip.

“Last summer I was blown away by the quality of speakers and entrepreneurs we were introduced to,” Pittman said. “I am blown away by the Praxis vision for ‘redemptive entrepreneurship’ and how they are working to grow a generation of entrepreneurs with a Kingdom vision.”

Different lectures will be taught at the academy. Topics include keynotes, startup stories, breakouts, roundtables, workshops, discussion groups and an ideas festival.

Students will innovatively learn to work with one another to discuss and create new ideas.

“It’s an incredible organization, and I think it’s a really awesome opportunity for our students and a great asset to our entrepreneurship program,” said Pittman.

Dr. Jim Litton, Director of the Griggs Center for Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy, is responsible for ACU’s partnership with Praxis Labs.

ACU started sending students to the academy in the summer of 2017.

Though it has created over 4,000 full-time jobs across 42 countries around the world, the Praxis Academy is not an internship. However, the students that will attend and represent ACU will also be part of the Griggs Center Fellows program.

The Fellows program focuses on entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Their goal is to combine in-classroom learning with hands-on, real world experiences.

All students are welcome to apply for the Praxis Academy, regardless of their major.

“I think any student that is interested in learning more about redemptive entrepreneurship, no matter their major, should apply to attend Academy Week,” said Pittman. “Students from around the globe and from a wide variety of majors attend the week. Check out the website and feel free to apply.”

Students who wish to attend the week-long conference must apply at the Praxis Academy website: https://academy.praxislabs.org/academy.

My second year at ACU was full of opportunities that grew me as an individual and a journalist.

In my first year as editor in chief of @acuoptimist, we published six print issues, filmed a 3-hour live election show, and revamped our newscast, all while producing news weekly.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
