It was arguably the defining moment of the Texas Tech game. Alex Broome, running back from Nashville, Tennessee, returned the kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown. The ACU fan section erupted.

Through a computer screen, this touchdown was exciting at most. But in person at Texas Tech, this moment was unforgettable.

‘‘I think moments like that are what make sports,’’ said Zachariah Gil, junior multimedia major from Abilene.

He and his friends were there in the Galaxy Stadium, joining the hundreds of students in the ACU fan section. He described the exact moment that the touchdown happened.

‘‘You hear the vibration and the ground shaking,’’ Gil said. “Everyone’s just going crazy. It’s berserk.’’

Kaia Anderson, sophomore biochemistry major from Denton, also traveled to the Texas Tech game with several of her friends. This was her first time traveling to an away game, and she said the experience was worth the long trip.

‘‘Going to Tech was honestly a blast,’’ Anderson said. “Genuinely, it was so much fun.’’

For her, the sheer number of students there stood out to her the most.

‘‘There were so many people there, and it was so hype,’’ Anderson said. ‘‘It’s definitely better than watching it at home.’’

She said her favorite part was getting to spend time with her friends during the whole game.

‘‘You get to bond with your friends so much more than you think,’’ Anderson said. ‘‘You’re making memories.’’

Gil said he enjoyed the whole atmosphere throughout the game.

‘‘It’s the best part … to be going over there and seeing it,’’ Gil said.

Both Gil and Anderson said that you don’t need to know football to enjoy the game with your friends.

‘‘Honestly, if you don’t know football, I’d say go anyway,’’ Anderson said. ‘‘You get to bond with your friends so much more than you think you would.’’

Gil said that getting to experience each moment with everyone in the stadium is why he loves going to games.

‘‘Even if you don’t like football, I think you should just go just because of the environment and the culture that’s there,’’ Gil said.

Anderson said her first experience at an away game was incredible.

‘‘If there was another one, I’d definitely go,’’ Anderson said. ‘‘You’re making memories. I think that’s a really fun time to have.’’

Gil said that being in-person at a game like this is something every student should consider.

‘‘You don’t have to like sports, but I promise you will love it,’’ Gil said.
