Saddam Hussein-the little kid down the street

March 19, 2003 by Joel Weckerly

Weck’s World

Ever see two little children fight with each other? It’s usually the same scene: Big kid wants something that little kid has, but little kid isn’t ready and willing to give it up, so big kid beats him up and takes it back.

Such is the case with what might very well take place Wednesday at 7 p.m., at which point President George Bush has said he will use military action at a time of his choosing to dethrone Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Little kid Hussein has withheld weapons that he refuses to destroy, and as a result has ticked off big kid Bush to the point where Hussein and his sons have a 48-hour time period to hit the road before we pave his old ones.

Yes, Hussein is that annoying little boy, and you know the one I speak of quite well.

He stands at the bus stop clad in Osh Kosh B’Gosh’s, carrying a Power Ranger backpack and Digimon lunchbox. He sings annoying Aaron Carter songs, seeking attention from you and the other kids. When you tell him to shutup, he repeats back to you what you have just said. He pulls off one of your gloves and runs around in circles as you frustratedly chase him around the block.

And my, is that little punk stubborn. Next to the entry for “donkey” found in Webster’s Dictionary is Hussein’s mug shot.

I mean, is this guy for real? Does he not remember Desert Storm? Did he just want to test the strength of the Bush family genes? George H. spanked him back in 1991, and it seems as though George W. will have to do the same in 2003.

If he does remember the Decimation in the Desert, you wouldn’t know it by flipping to any of the major news channels. He stands there, clad in military attire with the rest of his goons, attempting to act confidently powerful. Which is why Bush will need to send the little runt to timeout for a while. Bad Saddam!

This isn’t to say, however, that Hussein is powerless to an American attack. U.S. officials say Iraqi units may possess VX nerve and mustard gas that they are prepared to use in retaliation of our attack. It’s unfortunate that our nation’s soldiers and media personnel must lose their lives because of a man’s stubbornness.

Tonight, we could very well go to war. The things kids will do these days.
