This past weekend, I participated in a Tetris tournament held at a Play N' Trade on the south side of town. It was ladder style, meaning that the person with the highest score at the end of the competition period, this time Oct. 31, won. I entered purely for the joy of competition. I already owned the prize, a Retron-3 console, and I figured I ... [Read More…]
SA neglects to fulfill campaign promises
"Communication!" students cried last spring during Students' Association officer elections. The candidates all listened and pitched ideas for how they could best fix the problem, but a semester later we find ourselves heading toward the same brick-thick barrier that divides SA Congress from the rest of the student body. Many students on campus ... [Read More…]
Students benefit from longer breaks
Fall break needs to be longer. Many other universities get more days off from school for holidays and fall and Thanksgiving breaks than we do. This has to change. One day without classes isn't a "break;" it's a day when you turn your alarm off in your sleep. One day isn't enough additional time to give many students a chance to travel home or ... [Read More…]
Mayberry meets the 21st century
A month ago I had an unpleasant run-in with a CityLink bus. Thanks to a misunderstanding concerning the ticket, I showed up in court a day away from being a wanted criminal. Going to court seemed like a fun activity for someone minoring in political science and finds the judicial process appealing on a general level; so naturally I invited a ... [Read More…]

Keeping up with this mess can be a full-time job. But, lucky for you, none of that has to affect the way you vote. ... [Read More…]

It is to be implemented fall 2012. Although new to ACU, block tuition has been utilized by many of ACU's competitors such as: University of Texas at Austin; Texas Christian ... [Read More…]
Brugman: Optimist shows no empathy
This letter to the editor concerns the editorial "'Occupying' won't get you anywhere" printed in Vol. 100, No. 16 issue of the Optimist published Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2011. Everybody is a critic. In a movement as large and widespread as Occupy Wall Street, the people who oppose the 99 are doing it for infantile reasons: "lack of organization or ... [Read More…]
Anthony: Occupy not immature
This letter to the editor concerns the editorial "'Occupying' won't get you anywhere" printed in Vol. 100, No. 16 issue of the Optimist published Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2011. I've been dismayed by ACU students twice this week. First, when I read an Abilene Reporter-News article quoting ACU business students as they dismissed the plight of those ... [Read More…]
