Jennings, Oputa to run-off for executive treasurer position

April 10, 2015 by Madeline Orr

The 2015-2016 Students’ Association president and vice president have been elected after a delay in obtaining the Student’s Association election results from vote.acu.edu. None of the candidates for the executive treasurer position were able to obtain a majority of the vote leading to a run-off election between Morgan Jennings and Chuck Oputa will be early next week.

Beau Carter, junior political science major from Farmers Branch, was elected president with 592 votes and 242 abstaining. Caleb Orr, sophomore political science major from McKinney, was elected vice president with 733 votes and 101 abstaining. Both Carter and Orr ran unopposed.

Carter said he is excited for the opportunity to serve next year.

“I’m looking forward to the new congress members and new budget and all together a bigger and better year,” he said.

The run-off for executive treasurer is between Morgan Jennings, sophomore accounting major from Abilene, and Chuck Oputa, junior communications major from Dallas. Jennings received 329 votes, Oputa received 302 and Cameron Broderick received 203.

Carter said he is unsure whether the run-off will be on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

“We are looking forward to an extra long campaign between the two, having to go out and get more votes,” he said.

Both proposed amendments to the SA constitution were also passed. The amendment adding academic college representatives to SA Congress passed with 548 votes and the amendment adding student organization representatives passed with 594 votes.
